Here's the thing nobody at the premium end wants you to notice: the Alpine Trail E1 has the exact same Bosch CX Gen 5 motor and 800 Wh battery as the Vala, the Rail+ and the LTe. Same power, same range, same app, same dealer support. You just don't get carbon or a fancy name on the down tube.

Where the money gets saved is weight and suspension. It's a heavy bike, and you feel it when you try to flick it around tight corners. The X-Fusion fork and shock are fine, and they're not RockShox or Fox. For long, rough days where you mostly point it and go, none of that matters much.

If you want full-size Bosch power and 170 mm of travel without paying boutique prices, this is the one I'd look at first.

What I like
  • Same Bosch CX Gen 5 and 800 Wh as premium bikes
  • Big 170 / 160 mm travel
  • Sold through local shops
What I don't
  • Heavy — about 58 lb
  • Budget suspension isn't as refined

Long-term test pending. Marin, if you'd like this one ridden and reviewed in full, let's talk.
